Darkly Dreaming Dexter

May 12, 2011 at 9:46 pm (Colin Hanks, Dexter, Mos Def)

So after getting hooked on Lost, True Blood and Heroes i needed something else…I have a bit of a fascination with serial killers, not in some sick morbid way, but i like seeing what make them tick, the differences in the way their minds work and stuff…and what should i discover..? DEXTER!!! Oh my shit i love this show, it’s got everything i need, I love Debs character, but i love Dexter!!! He’s too cool, he’s weird, he’s kooky, he’s a bit freaky but he’s loveable.
I watched the first 4 series in about a week, and im coming up to the end of the fifth series now…found out today two new actors are reportedly joining the new series, hip hop artist Mos Def who my boyfriend likes is going to playing an ex con who claims to have found religion, but maybe all isnt what it seems, and Colin Hanks, Tom Hanks son is supposed to be playing Dexter’s arch enemy!!! I am so SO excited!!!

My fave Horror/sci-fi movie Heroines

May 10, 2011 at 6:59 pm (28 Days Later, Alien, Halloween, heroines, horror movies, Planet Terror, sci fi movies, Silence of the Lambs, Suspiria, Terminator, The Shining, True Blood)

Lately ive been watching alot of Horror movies, new and old so i decided to do a list of great horror / sci-fi movie heroines. Im going to do a top 10, but i don’t think i could put them in order of bestest, so take them as you will…

1. Jamie Lee Curtis
John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween’ was Curtis’ debut film, and i remeber watching it as a kid terrified of the wardrobe scene!!! Curtis kick ass in it 🙂 She’s awesome in the film, and the perfect choice i think. Halloween and Michael Myers is said to be the first in a long line of slasher films, inspired by Alfred Hitchcocks ‘Pyscho’.

2. Sigourney Weaver
Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ stars the beautiful Sigourney Weaver, and woah…what a women!!! Who ever said men were stronger than women, i just want to say, what ever THEY can do WE can do better!!! Haha, well it might just be Ripley, but what a role model!!! I didn’t see any of the alien films until i was 18 so i don’t have the same child nostalgia as most, but still an epic collection. Terrifying, with THE creepiest and strangest designs by H.R.Giger, Ripley is probably THE best heroine in horror/sci-fi films!!!!

3. Jodie Foster
‘Silence of the Lambs’, adapted from the novel written by Thomas Harris is an amazing film, and the nievity and Clarice’s need to prove herself, make her the perfet heroine. She doesn’t appear to be as tough and hard as Ripley, but she proves herself at the end. She works perfectly along side Anthony Hopkins who is incredible as Hannibal Lecter,  And she’s totally stunning!

4. Linda Hamilton
James Cameron’s’ Terminator’ and ‘Terminator 2’ shows us the evolution of Sarah Connor, in the first film she’s fiesty, but shes also vulnerable and dependant on Kyle Reese, the second Terminator film we see Connor explode! She’s mean she’s tough, she’s sexy…she’s everything you’d want in an apocolyptic threat of a heroine!!! Crazy good idea, and Terminator 2 was the reason i fell in love with Arnie as a kid 🙂

5. Carrie Fisher
George Lucus’ ‘Star Wars’!!! Princess Leia!!! I don’t think i need to say much more 😛 I think if you don’t see these films as a kid, you will never understand the ULTIMATE greatness, you will like and probably love the films…but the nostalgia and the feeling you get from watching them as a kid, that can’t be reached as an adult!

6. Anna Paquin
‘True Blood’ has a few heroine’s i guess, but i love Sookie Stackhouse, she portrays a girl of innocence and nievity, but as the seasons go on, you can see she can handle herself. I like that she can be a bit dipsy but at the same time, have her head screwed on. Plus she pulls of the Merlotte’s uniform to perfection 😉

7. Lina Leandersson
Probably not the typical Heroine from a horror movie, but her character Eli in ‘Let The Right One In’ was mind blowing. The film itself blew me away, as ive mentioned in a previous blog. Ive still not seen the remake, ‘Let Me In’ and to be honest i don’t feel any need to. But yeah, Leandersson plays the child vampire with innocence, with beauty, but also fiercely . She was perfect.

8. Rose McGowan
Robert Rodriguez’ ‘Planet Terror’ shows McGowan’s character, Cherry Darling a go-go dancer kicking ass in a zombie-esque action film…i really enjoyed the film, and apart from the fact she’s wearing a mini skirt and a leather clad top, revealing everything, and leaving little to the imagination…she has a gun for a leg!!! Too cool 🙂

9. Jessica Harper
Dario Argento’s ‘Suspiria’ is one of the weirdest films ive seen, didn’t really make much sense when i watched it, but the colours in the film capture you so intensely that you don’t really need to know whats going on lol. With the films score performed by Goblin, giving the finishing touches to this ultra creepy, ultra weird film. Harper’s character Suzy Banyon, isn’t what i’d call your typical heroine, in the sense of Sarah Connor, but she fights her way through a coven of creepy ballet witches and survives. Although all the way through the film, im expecting her to die at any minute!

10. Naomie Harris
Danny Boyles ’28 Days Later’ is an awesome take on the zombie genre, although my boyfriend doesn’t think its a true zombie film, and i can see why he thinks that. None the less,  i fricking love the film and i love how Harris’ character Selena starts out as the big bad ass, saving Cillian Murphy’s character Jim, and pretty much taking care of him for pretty much the first half of the film. She’s got a machete and knows how to use it, and isnt afraid to use it on anyone!

I just wantde to add 1 heroine who was in a great movie, but is possibly THE most feeble heroine in film history (lol)

Shelley Duvall
Playing Wendy in Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’ i have never seen a more feeble more inadequate heroine in a film. The film is awesome, and you can see why she WOULD act the way she does going up against the crazies that is Jack Nicholson 🙂
But it’s almost like you want her to die, it’s like you give up on her half way, thinking she’s got to die soon right?!?!
Still an awesome film though 🙂

May 9, 2011 at 11:08 pm (Dungeons and Dragons, Elves)

Sooooo ive never really been interested in Dungeons and Dragons, but recently my boyfriend has started really getting into it, and we found out a few of our friends would be up for starting a game too. I know pretty much nothing about it, but our D&D starter pack came this morning, and im pretty excited now 🙂 And i know i want to be an elf, so ive been looking at a few ideas for some character designs for my elf rogue 🙂

This wasn’t really the design i wanted, but how fricking beautiful?!?! I so SO love it 🙂

Although im not looking to be a skin head elf, i thought this looked incredible! The detail in the face is..WOAH! And it’s a possable doll!!! How cool?!?
